Just ahead of WeHealth’s 1-year anniversary, Sameer Halai (CEO) and Joanna Masel (Head of Science) eagerly seized an opportunity to travel throughout the state of Arizona and visit numerous customers and partners in person for the first time.
White Mountain Apache Tribe
The Fort Apache Indian Reservation in northeastern Arizona and is home to the White Mountain Apache Tribe. The reservation covers 1.6 million acres and has a population of nearly 15,000 people.
The White Mountain Apache Tribe of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation is the first tribal nation to implement an exposure notification (EN) solution with customized community messaging. During our time there, we got to tour the Whiteriver Indian Hospital and meet with several public health partners in the area.

Pima County is the second-largest county in Arizona, with most of its population in Tucson. It’s known for its beautiful cactus forests and nearly 200,000 acres of protected land. The Pima County Health Department
We toured one of their COVID-19 testing facilities for low-income residents where they can receive free BinaxNOW tests and education about how to protect themselves from the virus.

University of Arizona
The University of Arizona is a beautiful, historic campus founded 136 years ago. It has over 45,000 students enrolled and is located in the heart of Tucson, Arizona. University of Arizona helped test the Covid Watch app and also prove its efficacy.
In addition to her role at WeHealth, Joanna Masel is also a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the university, so it was especially great to connect with everyone here on campus.
