Summer 2026
Duration: Jun - Sep 2026
Location: Sacramento / Bay Area / RemoteWehealth is excited to welcome interns to join us in support of the California Consortium for Public Health Informatics and Technology (CCPHIT) program. Wehealth is a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) with a mission to build digital infrastructure to enhance global preparedness and resilience. Wehealth connects communities with public agencies, scientists, medical professionals, research labs and domain experts through an iterative process of co-development that improves outcomes and ensures that the solutions benefit all. Wehealth is active nationwide and supports all 3,000+ local, territorial and state health departments. At Wehealth, interns are part of the team, with clearly defined projects that contribute to our core mission. You will report to the CEO and work with our collaborators and research partners that span federal, state and local government agencies nationwide.
Wehealth’s platform helps make geocoded data actionable and useful to public health experts as well as end users. The information is made available via Wehealth Portal designed for local agencies and PHapp, designed for the public. This project involves curating and visualizing new geospatial data–e.g. municipal boundaries, evacuation zones, location-based incident reports, community resources–and prepare it for provisioning it within the Wehealth platform. This data will be cross-referenced with other sources including US census, USGS etc. to derive new insights and benchmarks. This will be used to create new AI-driven risk forecasts to help educate the public about issues that may impact their communities and help them prepare.
We seek interns to support the following activities, including, but not limited to the following:
- Identify and evaluate new data sources for inclusion on the Wehealth platform
- Prepare data for mapping using Excel and/or R, or import from existing sources on ArcGIS online
- Create map layers in QGIS and merge with all existing Wehealth data
- Map layers in web application using custom Google maps to deliver
- Automate data processing using scripts and bespoke algorithms for our use cases
As part of this internship opportunity, Interns will be provided with the following professional development opportunities:
